How To Jailbreak iOS 8 (All Devices) With Pangu (Untethered)

Only yesterday we revealed that the Chinese jailbreak team were confident of an iOS 8 jailbreak. And, alas, they have lived up to their expectations and released a tool which allows users to jailbreak their iOS 8 devices.

At the time of writing, the tool is only compatible with Windows, but a Mac version is said to be on the way!

How to jailbreak iOS 8 using Pangu

Before you get started, you’ll need to download to download the Pangu software from here. (All download links have been collected together at the end of this post). You should also restore to a fresh version of iOS 8 before jailbreaking; you can download the IPSW file from here.

At the time of writing this tool is only available for Windows – but a Mac and Linux version are on the way and the steps below should be the same.

Before starting, please disable your passcode and Find My iPhone if you have them enabled.

Step 1: Run the tool by either mounting the DMG on Mac or opening the EXE file on Windows.

Step 2: Connect your iDevice via USB to your computer. We encountered bugs if we had more than one iDevice connected so it is recommended you have only one device connected whilst following these steps.

Step 3: Wait for your device to be recognized, then hit the Jailbreak button.

Step 5: Follow the steps on-screen and follow any prompts.

Step 6: Now the process will complete automatically and your device will reboot.

As of 22nd October 2014, Cydia will not be automatically installed when you jailbreak. This is because the jailbreak has been released before Cydia was updated for iOS 8. Saurik (the developer of Cydia) released this statement:

So, windknown has contacted me, about a half hour ago, via e-mail. He has told me one of the issues that is keeping Substrate from working on the device, which will probably require me to build a little binary patch for dyld as part of the Substrate installation sequence. This was the worst possible day for me, as I’m traveling back to Santa Barbara today (I’m currently in Texas, having come here to give a talk at The Big Android BBQ), which means this will take me a little longer than I’d like, but clearly getting Cydia and Substrate working on iOS 8 is my highest priority. I thankfully think that I actually can start working a little on one of the Substrate issues using an iOS 7 “model” based on the information provided by windknown, which means I’ll lose less time to not having all of my devices with me. (I currently have no clue why Cydia itself is not functioning, but will find out later today when I can see it myself.)
(edit: ~7:30AM PT) I’ve given a new version of Cydia Installer in the form of a standard jailbreak bootstrap for inclusion in a new version of their jailbreak. I’ve also pushed the .deb of the iOS 8 version of Cydia to apt.saurik.com for manual download, but not yet to my repository. A lot of thanks goes out to limneos, who tested the new build for me, as I was at an airport (and now am frantically typing this message while they figure out how to retract the jetbridge from the plane I’m on that is about to take off).
