Earlier today the Chinese jailbreak dev team named Pangu released a jailbreak for Apple’s iOS 8. Since there was no collaboration or communication between the jailbreak team and Cydia owner Saurik – the jailbreak tool does not automatically install the Cydia application. This is because at the time of compiling the jailbreak tool, an iOS 8 version of Cydia was not available.
Since the announcement of the jailbreak, with credit to Saurik, a version of Cydia compatible with iOS 8 is now available. Until the Pangu team (if ever) add Cydia to their jailbreak package, users will have to manually install the Cydia deb file.
Step 1: You’ll need to access the file directory of your device. You can use any of your preferred methods, but our favourite noobie-friendly method is by using iFunBox.
Step 2: Navigate to /var/root/Media on your iDevice.
Step 3: Make a new folder called Cydia inside the Media directory. Open the new Cydia directory you just created and make another one called AutoInstall.
Step 4: Download the following files and place them in the AutoInstall folder:
Step 5: Once you have placed the following files your directory listing should be similar to this:
+ var
+root
+Media
+AutoInstall
– cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb
– cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb
Step 6: Now reboot your device. When it turns back on, Cydia should be on your springboard. You’ll need to launch it and follow the on-screen steps to complete the installation.
