How To Restore iOS Without Losing Cydia & Jailbreak

Earlier on we reported that a developer called CoolStar was working on a desktop application which would allow you to restore to almost stock iOS without losing your jailbreak. Several weeks later, the application is ready to be rolled out to Windows and Mac whilst a Linux option is just a few days away!

This tutorial will guide you through using Semi-Restore to wipe your device whilst keeping your jailbreak perfectly in tact.

How to restore iOS without losing Cydia and jailbreak

Please note that this method is only compatible with iOS 5.0 to iOS 6.1.2. Also be wary that this restore wipes your device completely from any personal data so be sure to make a backup before you get started. As always, tutorials are published on Technouz for educational and research purposes only so we cannot be held responsible for damage caused to you, your device or any third parties as a result of following this tutorial.

Step 1: First, we’ll need to download the latest version of Semi Restor software from this link.

Step 2: Run the application and connect your device. Make sure you have already backed up your device and iTunes is not running.

Step 3: The Semi Restore software will take a few seconds to recognize your device. Once it has does this you will be able to click the ‘Restore‘ button to initiate the process.

Step 4: This part may take a while, so sit back and relax while your computer does all the hard work. Typically this process takes around ten to fifteen minutes – however it may take longer for some users.

Step 5: Once the process completes your device will reboot and will appear to be running the stock version of iOS. Swipe to the right and you’ll see Cydia.

That’s it! You’re done!
