Fix Error: Google Chrome “Your profile could not be opened correctly”

I recently experienced the first bug ever with my favourite browser; Google Chrome. I usually browse with multiple Google accounts; one personal, one business etc. Upon switching between accounts multiple error messages warned me of the same thing: “Your profile could not be opened correctly” along with something about read and write permissions. At first, I thought I’d leave it and it would go away, but it became annoying and so I decided to deal with the problem.

I have now successfully solved the issue, and after doing some research too – I have compiled a method below on how to solve this error.

How to fix “Your profile could not be opened correctly error” on Google Chrome

Check your plugins

This was my issue, and it’s the easiest thing to check so do it first. If you have recently installed any new toolbars or plugins for your computer or Chrome, try disabling or uninstalling them. The latest update of Adobe Flash player introduces the option to install the AVG Safesearch toolbar – and by mistake I left the box ticked and it was installed alongside my flash player update. Even though the toolbar wasn’t activated in Chrome it seemed to be causing the error for me. To solve this, I simply headed over to my Windows Control Panel and uninstalled the AVG Safesearch toolbar; restarted Chrome and voila! Problem solved!

Profile Data Corruption

It’s also possible that your profile data was corrupted and therefore causing the error. James Jordan at Four Leaf has written a great tutorial on how to fix this issue, and it’s bookmarked below to save you the hassle of switching through pages.
