How to automatically add 2014 FIFA World Cup schedule to Google calender

There are two stages for this tutorial. The first will be to set up the World Cup calender sync with Google Calender and then we will sync our Google calender with our Blackberry device.

This calender will automatically update at each stage, so when the group stages are over the quarter and semi final titles will be updated to the corresponding teams that have qualified for those positions.

Step 1: Head over to Google calender from a desktop browser by visiting calender.google.com

Step 2: Click the little downward-facing arrow in the navigation bar on the left. It should be next to some text which reads Other Calenders.

Step 3: Now click Add by URL and a dialogue box should open.

Step 4: Copy and paste the following URL into the dialogue box:

www.google.com/calendar/feeds/vdmtdcektajkqjk51vvda4ni4k%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic

Step 5: Hit Add Calender and now it’s time to sync the calender to our Blackberry.

You’ll need Blackberry OS 5 or above in order to sync Google calender to your device, You can check if you device has OS6 by heading to Options and then select About.

Step 6: Once you’ve confirmed you have OS version 5 or above you need to make sure you’ve added your Google/Gmail account to sync with your Blackberry. If you haven’t already done this, you can head over to Setup > Email Settings Messages (or the equivalent menu to setup email on your Blackberry). Then follow the on-screen steps to add your Gmail account.

Step 7: Now setting up the sync is super easy. Head back over to Setup and then on to Email Settings. From here, scroll onto your Gmail account, press the Menu key and then Edit.

Step 8: Now scroll to Synchronisation Options and make sure the checkbox next to calender has been ticked.

Step 9: Save changes and connect to WiFi to make your device sync faster. Give it a few minutes and once the automatic sync is complete, the fixtures will appear in your calendar!

Note: These steps were written according to a Blackberry Bold running OS6. If you have a newer device, the steps will probably be a little bit different, but the general way of syncing Gmail is the same. If you have any problems, contact me via Twitter or Facebook using the links below and we can go through the steps together.
