Google Nexus Devices Get Android KitKat 4.4.4 Update

Android KitKat

The Google Nexus 4, 5, 7 and 10 have officially received the Android 4.4.4 update which is also available to download from the Nexus Factory Image page.

Follow months of speculation, Google eventually did roll out Android 4.4.3 to most Nexus devices just a couple of weeks ago. Most manufacturers are yet to roll out the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update for their devices.

Google has posted factory images for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10. Nexus 5 users have confirmed that they have received the update OTA as well – whilst the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 users can expect an OTA update prompt very soon.

Android 4.4.4 brings only small tweaks and bug fixes, but is believed to be focused around resolving and OpenSSL vulnerabilities.

Earlier this month, reports suggested that an update to Android 4.4.3 for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5 was on the horizon. It is believed that the update is in it’s final stages and nearly ready for deployment.

Given the updates and less enthusiastic adoption by manufacturers, Google is still expected to launch Android 5.0 Lollipop later this month at it’s I/O conference.
