Anker are better known for their charging and power solutions for smartphones and tablets. This is the first Anker speaker I am reviewing, however it is very similar in design and specs to Inateck and EasyAcc.
Without a doubt, the best thing about this speaker is it’s premium feel. It has been built with aluminium which gives it some weight and a nice smooth finish. As a display piece, this speaker quite easyily ticks most boxes to look attractive in a modern, contemporary desk space.
Sound quality is usually the most important aspect of small-sized, portable speakers. Very rarely have portable speakers lived up to my high expectations set by the X-Mini line-up. The Anker A7911 does a good job of being loud, but the clarity and accuracy of the output sound could be improved. There is very little to no bass and sound has a touch of distortion at the high end too.
But as a portable device used on travels or out in the park the Anker performs well. Users who are looking for an external speaker option for their laptops and tablets will be most pleased with the Anker too.
The Anker features a 3.5mm jack, Bluetooth and a MicroSD card slot so ticks most requirements for a portable speaker. I am more likely to only make use of the Bluetooth connectivity and 3.5mm jack, but the MicroSD slot is a good option to have.
Build quality, design and daily usage
It’s made from aluminium. That alone will put it way ahead of any plastic alternatives at this price range. The added weight due to its aluminium casing also makes the speaker sit very sturdily with absolutely no wobble, thus having no effect on the output sound quality.
The buttons at the top, however, are made of a hard rubber. This is not a bad thing by any means as they are very responsive and easy to use with no fiddling. There is a small delay between pressing a button and the speaker doing something – but at this level, this is not a serious problem.
If you’re looking for a beautifully designed portable speaker with great connectivity options, the Anker is surely the way to go. If superb sound quality is more important to you, you may want to consider an X-Mini alternative instead.
Price of speaker at the time of reviewing was £35.99 and it has been judged accordingly.
