Although Apple have made the effort of making the calendar icon on the iOS springboard to be live and show the real date, they seem to have forgotten that users may want to check the date within apps. For some, it becomes a very long a repetitive task of closing the all, heading over to the calendar, and then relaunching the app – if they’re not distracted in the meantime!
iOS users can now solve this problem through a jailbreak tweak from a developer called Shades. The tweak called SimpleDate (abbreviation for SimpleDate for Notification Center) can easily be installed to any jailbroken device to show the date in the iOS notification centre!
Requirements:
Step 1: Launch Cydia and head over to the Search tab. By default you should already have the BigBoss repo installed to Cydia, but incase you haven’t it’s here: http://apt.thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/.
Step 2: Search for ‘SimpleDate‘ and install the package from BigBoss, dev Shades.
Step 3: After Cydia has finished installing the package you may need to respring your springboard. Now we need to activate the tweak. Head over to Settings -> Notifications -> Scroll down to SimpleDate -> Swipe the toggle to On.
Now when you slide down the Notification Centre, you should see the date beneath the weather widget.
If you have any problems getting started with this tweak, or have an improvement to suggest get in touch via the contact page.
